About
Hi, I’m Esky! I was born and raised in Ethiopia and now live in Berlin with my husband and daughter. My mom taught me how to cook traditional Ethiopian food, mainly to prepare me for marriage :) She succeeded and here I am sharing the wisdom! :) jokes aside, I’d love to invite you into my kitchen for a hands-on experience of cooking authentic Ethiopian dishes, both vegan and non-vegan.
For me, cooking has always been a way to stay connected to home. I started by making Ethiopian dishes for my family, then occasionally for friends and quickly noticed how much joy the food brought to people. Beyond the flavours, sharing Ethiopian food is about stories, traditions, and moments of togetherness.
When I say authentic, I mean it. I make injera, the spongy, sourdough flatbread at the heart of every Ethiopian meal, using 100% teff flour. The Berbere spice mix and Shiro are lovingly prepared by my mom and I will explain the ingredients and how it is prepared. All other ingredients are bought here and they are organic, and the vegetables are always fresh.
Here’s what a class with me looks like:
-
I’ll greet you with a glass of Birz, a traditional non-alcoholic honey drink or the vegan alternative sunflower juice and we’ll have a little chat about what’s ahead.
-
We’ll start by making injera, then move on to prepare sauces and dishes like Shiro, Misir, Tibs, and Kitfo.
-
As we cook, I’ll share the stories, traditions, and ingredients that make each dish truly authentic.
-
Finally, we’ll gather around the Mesob (traditional Ethiopian dining table) and enjoy the meal together.
As a mother, I know how important it is to make this a family-friendly experience. Families with kids are very welcome! For a relaxed session, I recommend booking on Sundays.
I keep my classes small and intimate, so you’ll get personal guidance, a relaxed atmosphere, and plenty of opportunities to ask questions or practice the techniques yourself.
I can’t wait to cook, share, and celebrate Ethiopian flavors with you!
